The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is the global forum for intellectual property (IP) services, policy, information and cooperation. It is a self-funding agency of the United Nations, established in 1967 with 193 member states. Its mission is to lead the development of a balanced and effective international IP system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all.
WIPO and Scamadviser have started sharing data to better combat intellectual property infringements. Scamadviser.com has made its Domain Analyzer available to WIPO to enable enhanced functionality for the Organization’s WIPO ALERT database. WIPO ALERT is a voluntary, information-sharing initiative, bringing together national agencies and players in the advertising sector to help prevent the misplacement of ads on copyright-infringing websites. WIPO provides Scamadviser with access to its database on IP infringing sites to warn consumers faster.
Jorij Abraham, General Manager, Scamadviser states: “We are very happy with the cooperation with WIPO. It allows us to improve our algorithm with the latest IP infringing sites and warn consumers faster and better about websites that are pirating content, selling fakes or in any other way infringing IP rights.” Thomas Dillon, Legal Counsellor, WIPO adds: “WIPO is delighted to cooperate with Scamadviser in its important work to help create a safer internet. Illegal pirate websites can pose a risk to both consumers and brands.”
WIPO and Scamadviser will explore further cooperation regarding the fight against scams and IP infringements over the next few months.
